Dear All,

I am about to upgrade my MY98 UK by fitting some STI 4-pots at the front.

The parts I bought are in A1 condition, and have been carefully packed but I wish to ensure that I have everything I need before I start. It won't be possible to pop round to my dealer once the car is in pieces if I find I am missing a bolt, washer or clip.

To this end, I am hoping that someone with a workshop manual, or access to a similar source of information would be able to provide me with any of the following info:

Either an exploded parts diagram
or a part inventory including all bolts, fasteners etc.
Torque settings for caliper bolts etc.

I know this is a tall order, but I would be very grateful for any assistance. Alternatively, someone in SW London with a MY99 or STI could pop around and I could dismantle their car to see how it all goes together

Any other practical hints or tips from someone who has carried out this upgrade would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Alex

P.S. I know this is a relatively straight forward job - I'm just trying to build up my confidence before attacking my car with a spanner for the first time!.

Hi All,

Still looking for any tips from those that have done this.

Cheers,

Alex (the mechanical incompetent)

Exclamation

If this is your first go at doing something like this I suggest you take it to a garage, they should only take (approx.) a couple of hours, they may even let you watch?

Brakes are not a good place to begin for a 'mechanical incompetent.'

Mike T,

I don't know... people like you prevent evolution in its most basic form from happening! If every budding car mechanic started on interesting stuff, like brakes, there would be much fewer bad ones about! The same applies for electricians and pedestrians who assume they can just walk into the road anytime they like and not be hit by traffic.

Have you ever actually met a so-so or even a bad bomb-disposal expert?

Mike,

Ok - To be honest, I'm not totally 'mechanically incompitent' - I was just playing for sympathy. I have done this before on a few other cars and lived to tell the tale .

What I really need is to make sure I have been supplied with all necessary nuts, bolts, washers, anti-rattle clips etc. Should I replace the caliper bolts with new ones, or will the originals be ok?

Any other general fitting tips appreciated.

Rgds,

Alex

P.S. My dealer quoted £280 which seems a bit on the high side.
