I have a jap sti 7 with the gold brembo callipers. Im not sure if this is standard on all sti 7's. My rear pads are getting low, what options do I have and prices. Also what discs would I need to put on if i replace them too, how much would they be. Where is the cheapers place about

My pads are just ready for replacement on the STi9 (fronts at only 10,000 miles and I don't use them honest). the factory fit clearly don't last but they do work well so I am fitting a set of factory replacements this time round, if there any other suggestions then I'd be keen to hear them as well.

The standard front and rear pads are Jurid 636FF, but I suspect that is the compound, not the pad type.
As obviously they cannot both carry the same part number.
My local Jurid brake motor factor claims they do nat have ANY pads for a STi7!!
Aftermarket pads are:
Mintex MDB1859 fronts.
Mintex MDB1890 rears.
Avaiable as M1144,M1155,M1166,M1177 compound, but read on for further clarification.
Mintex technical department do not list a pad for the rear of a STi7 MY02 with Brembo's. I have spoken to them last week, on the phone.
The MDB1859's are the same pad specified for Misibushi Lancer Evo 6 & 7, and do fit because I have them on my STi7.
However the Evo front disc is 320mm diameter, the STi7 is 325mm diameter, so you lose 2.5mm on the radius of the friction material.
The loss of swept area doesn't appear to be detrimental, probably because the M1155 compound I am using is better than the OEM pads (Jurid 636FF).
The rear pads MDB1890 are also listed as EVO 6 & 7 pads.
Both of these DO fit an MY02 STi7.
The Mintex chap (I won't state his name) informed me that MDB1859 pads are made as STD with M1144 compound.
IE they do NOT do a standard specification variant of this model of pad.
Although you might like to confirm that yourself, as I have had conflicting opinion from a racing brake supplier/specialist locally.
The Ferodo numbers for the equivalent EVO 6 & 7 pads is,
FDS1334 front
FDS1282 rear
As they use the same Brembo calipers, Or at least appear to take the same physical size pad, then they should fit as well.
But I haven't tried the Ferodo's.
Funnily enough when I phoned Ferodo technical I was informed that they do not list ANY pad for the STi7!!!
When I enquired about the Prodrive upgrade to DS2500 for the car, he had no idea what I was on about.
He also stated that FRP3067's are Racing Pads hence 'RP' in the part number, and I shouldn't fit those.
But the link previously posted clearly shows them available in DS2500 compound. Is this fast road or competition specification compound?
Perhaps it would be worth a phone call to calrify for yourself.

TTZZ,
Mintex do not list seperate part numbers for the EVO and the STi 7, so presumably they make the pad a suitable thickness to suit both cars.
MY MDB1859's I fitted last year on 10,000 mile old discs fitted without problem.
My supplier did mention that the Mintex pads may be slightly thicker than original fit pads, and if I had brand new discs, might be a problem.
But Mintex DO list them as the correct fitment for the Subaru.
Their web site doesn't work correctly however and lists MY00 pads for the STi, on their vehicle selection chart, but they e-mailed me confirmation of the MDB1859 fitment as being correct.
Your investigations seems to conclude that Ferodo DO list a pad for the front of the STi 7, and it is thinner than their EVO spec pad, yet their technical department in the UK denied having any pad listed for my car!!!
Perhaps I spoke to the wrong person.
EBC direct list the same front pads and the same rear pads for EVO 6 & 7 and STi 7.
http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/default.asp
I haven't bought Ferodo pads so cannot comment on the squeal shims.
Mintex don't supply them.
Cheers

we normally stock both of these part no.s...............

Recieved this E-mail from Ferodo last Thursday.
Quote:
Hello Martin,
FRP3067 & 3068 are Ferodo race pads. In the UK racing pads are both
catalogued and distributed through agents only.
Ferodo Aftermarket UK Ltd handle only road/fast road pads. Thus I have no
information as to the application on these part numbers.
The design of back plate for the Evo VI is not listed against your Subaru
STi so I can not confirm information given by other manufacturers as to
there use.
Again Ferodo DS2500 is marketed as track only material. The agent Ferodo
appointed for the UK is Circuit Supplies UK Ltd TEL 01525 385888 who will
be able to help further with your enquiry.
Best Regards
Geoff Waterhouse
Technical Services.

Looks like DS2500 compound isn't a fast road material after all.

Pagid do them. RS4-2-1 is the fast road pad. I use Performance Braking in Monmouth to supply them 01600 713117.
Front pads are U2487, rear pads are U1587.
More expensive than some but very good, and it's brakes so you don't want to skimp do you?
