Braided lines Vs Support Bracket

Looking at doing one or the other. Which is the best to do (first), ie which has the biggest effect on braking performance (feel rather than power as already running uprated discs and pads and happy with them).
Also how big is the benefit of changing fluid to 'racing fluid' and what rating is best to go for??
Lot of questions, hope someone can shed some light!!

I had my lines changed and fitted mintex 1155's plus tarox 44 groove discs with dot4 silkolene fluid and it has made a massive difference to the feel of the pedal. But still the braking power is not sufficient for my driving style I think all the support bracket does is flex the cylinder with bulkhead instead of just the cyllinder moving on its own.
Time to order the Prodrive big disc upgrade

The support bracket stops the blkhead flexing when the brakes are applied. Thus cutting some of that spongy feeling.
This was the first thing I did to me brakes and the difference was very noticable. Well worth the money.
As with most things, make sure all the minor details are right first before rushing out to change the major things! So, with brakes, try the support bracket, service the calipers, make sure the pads are OK/change them for better, install braided lines etc.
I've got big brakes on mine (Wilwood + 335mm disks). One thing that made a noticable difference to the feel was replacing all the brake fluid. It may seem daft but this wasn't done when I had the brakes done (lack of time) so there was still this spongy feeling. I had it all replaced (about £30 by Subaru at the service) and the pedal firmed up enormously.
As I said, small things first.....

I fitted the bracket first, gave a much better feel and improved stopping. Next I did the hoses and felt little if no improvement. Its is still very worth while getting braided hoses because u feel the difference under repeated heavy braking.

I too had the Silkolene Dot4 put in when the braided hoses were fitted. Ended up with the Alcon upgrade via local Subaru dealer and took down the spare half litre to be told by the chief mechanic - " You don't want us to put this rubbish in do you, we only use Dot 5.1 which is much better" !!
I took his word for it and went with that.
Was he right ?

Dave,
The differences between the DOT ratings are wet & dry boiling points and type of fluids.
Saying that DOT 5.1 is very much like DOT 4 in type of fluid but has a much higher boiling point.
Cheers,
Rob.

I have the AP 4 pot set up with braided hoses front and rear with the dot 5.1
I have the BSB - had for about 6 months - never got round to fitting - I am told it makes a noticable difference
Only had the braided hoses cos they can take the dot 5.1 whereas its more of a risk with the crap rubber ones - due to higher boiling temps - fitment of braised hoses was a pain - required a bit of drilling!

I went in a 22B the other weekend, it had the braided hoses, DOT4 fluid and NO brake support bracket and the difference between that and my STi was considerable. Peoples opinions seem to vary over the support braket. Best thing is to try before you buy I guess.

NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL - perhaps it would make a difference on a standard sti - doubt it though - what a waste of money!
