I need some advice!

My disks were replaced at 15,000 miles under warranty due to cracking. Pads were replaced at the same (which I paid for).
The car has gone in today to have an aircon fault fix, and I've been told that the pads need replacing due to cracking as a result of "driving too fast and braking too hard, sir". They are 4500 miles old, with no track days, and mainly motorway miles!!

I think this is pretty shocking, and can't be as a result of my driving style.

What do you all think? Should I just take the plunge and upgrade pads and disks? Or should I insist on a warranty repair?

Dealer is SGT in Maidenhead, by the way.

Thanks.

I've just spoken to the service manager and he says they will try a warranty claim. He reckons pads are 70% worn in 4000 miles of motorway driving - something is wrong there.

More bad news - a shagged aircon compressor. Any second hand ones out there?

Clarkey, summat's wrong here. If you're pushing that hard it can only be because you live at the top of an Alpine pass and work at the bottom! And if that's the case, you'd be on your third or fourth set of tyres by now.

It sounds like a straight warranty job to me, but the problem there is that they'll refit the same old standard stuff. If you enjoy driving, the same thing is likely to happen again. ProDrive do an upgraded disc and pad set (I wonder why?!). Push for those.

When you say compressor you don't mean the condensor do you? If it is the compressor I have an unused one, with pipes, for a MY97/98 which I am prepared to let go for £100. It was removed from a brand new car during a rally conversion. I don't think it fits 99/00 models however.

Question

Clarkey
Is air-con not covered by the warranty?

Thanks everyone for all your help.

On the pads, I have been advised to go to IM directly and insist on Prodrive pads being supplied. I'll let you know how it goes.

On the aircon, the service receptionist told me in error that it was the compressor. It is of course the condensor, that has been damaged by a stone. No doubt caused by my driving too quickly again. I'm hoping to find out if they can be repaired or if a second hand one is around, as I refuse to pay £500 to have an aircon fixed at the start of the summer.

Thanks
