Does size really matter?

Please forgive my ignorance but what would be the difference in performance between 215/40 R17 and 215/45 R17 tyres fitted to OZ SuperT rims?
The reason I ask is that I have just returned from Micheldever Tyres after having all 4 tyres replaced to discover that they have fitted 205/45 instead of the orginal 215/45's. Before I phone up I would like to know what the differences are so I don't sound too much of a plum!

215/45 is too high a profile. Tyres too big. Might foul wheel arches when fully loaded, and you'll be going faster than your speedo says. Correct 17in tyres are 205/45 or 215/40.

Er, hold up hoppy!
John..you said 215/45/17 and then later say 205/45/17...which ones were they. If they were 215/45/17 then hoppy is right. If they were 205/45/17 then this is in fact the correct fitment for the scoob although some go for the 215 as there used to be more tyre choice and they fill the arches better! Personally I prefer the scoob on 205 with 17" wheels. You'll get more tramlining and more sliding in the wet with the wider tyres but it'll feel better on fast motorway sweepers!
