Slight rubbing noise from brakes (03 WRX)

When I have my radio off I can hear my brakes rubbing at low speed (when coming to stop at traffic lights etc).
The best way to describe this is if you have not used your car for a week or so and the discs are rusty the first few times you press the brake you get a faint rubbing noise. Well I get this all the time when I press the brakes at low speed.
The pads are ok - only done 8000 miles.
Any ideas?
Or is it a feature?

You only hear it at low speed because the noise does not get carried away behind you by your speed or get drowned out by wind/road or engine noise.

I had exactly the same thing I think. It was nothing that concerned me too much but I'm sure it was louder than normal - more noisy than the usual niose of the friction of the pads on the discs.
Had it checked as I was passing the dealer to see if the pads where on their way out and they werent - well, had 2-5000 miles according to the dealer. The extra noise was simply due to wear on the pads and discs.
So I agree with Flat Eric in that there is nothing untoward - but if it is louder than before it could just be wear on the pads and discs - not that they are worn out, just as they are wearing down and the surfaces changing.
