Question

I'm thinking of getting a set of 18's on my MY99 STI V TypeR but have concerns about ride quality. (it's my age you know 28).

With the STI suspension and lower profile tyres I can envisage a very hard scittish ride and the potential for tramlining.

If you've stuck 18's on your STI, i'd be most interested in your views. I will be changing from the OEM 16's.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Regards
Chris

I spoke to Pete Croney today at SS re fitting those beautifull "18" new speedlines and he confirms they will fit.

i dont think you will compromise the ride too much with these as they are v lightweight 8.5 KGS and as such will not affect the current unsprung weight adversley.

i think the pay off in terms of steering feel / response , grip and looks are well worth the investment.

if i get them fitted quick i will post my opinions on the bbs.

Regards

Tim

Cheers guys,

I have already done my homework re. the unsprung weight. As craig mentions you can get some very light 17 & 18" Wheels these days.

I had thought about a spring swap to say P1's.

Any more views?

Cheers

I'd be surprised if this didn't result in anything but a very hard ride. Also - the unsprung weight will definitely go UP by about 2 kg per corner as the OE 16" wheels are quite a bit lighter. Though I haven't tried 18" on mine I would assert that this should maybe combined with a move to more compliant springs - the P1 springs in particular - worth trying to find someone who will sell them to you I think.

they will undoubtedly look good though.

Have to say, my 17" Speedlines felt lighter than the oem 16s.

And the new ones at SS are lighter in 18 than mine are in 17........apparently
