Question Replace pads when fitting new discs?

Is it necessary and if so why? I have Pagid 421 pads which have resonable life left in them and I'm replacing the Pagid discs as they have cracked.

If the pads are evenly worn then should this be okay?

If all 4 pads have worn evenly, then there's no need to replace them at the same time as your discs.

Is the face of each pad smooth or has it got lots of lines or ridges?

If they have an uneven surface from rubbing against badly scored discs then you will not get the full surface area of the old worn pads touching the smooth new surfaces of the replacement discs.

This will give a reducton in brake efficiency.
