NEW TYRE MIXING WITH OLD
#1
Is it ok to put a new tyre of same brand and tread pattern onto the same axle as a part worn ie 5-6 mm tread left. Got a slow puncture that can't be repaired but will be replaced under warranty, should I meet halfway for new tyre on opposite side or will the 2-3 mm tread difference be ok.

IMHO
I was advised not to risk it, it could sh@g the dif. I had a similar problem, tyre puntured and needed sending away for a specialist repair. I changed both tyres and now have two 'spares' in the garage.

Advice on this seems to vary a lot last time I read about it here. I know I spoke to Subaru Tech people about this and was told that tyres should be replaced in fours, its not only side-to-side diff but front to back too (And that was assuming all tyres were same model). I forgot to 'rotate' mine to even out the wear once and ended up with a new set on front and a half-worn pair on the back with no probs though. The fronts soon caught up and they all wore out together.
I guess you've got to try and match them as much as possible. IMHO Sounds like a new pair is a good compromise, they should catch up quickly enough on the front. Unless of course sidewayz is your style!
