The latter I think. The brembos stick out a long way so you need a wheel with the spokes well outboard of the hub mounting face. No numbers to back this up though.
Classic and Newage wheels do fit each other except for the Sti Newage with Brembos fitted. OZ superlegs need to be 19s to clear although 17 or 18 OZ WRC's (P1 types) fit no problems.

Tks guys for your help. I have some 18 inch UK300 style OZ wheels but the tyres are a classsic profile so I think I'll flog 'em & start again.I'll be sure to check carefully any new purchases ;-)
