Don't know if the arches are the same, but I'm running 215x45 on 17's on my MY00 and never had any bother.

I wouldn't run the 225's, they'll almost certainly rub - the preferred size under the classic arches are 215/40/17 so as not to risk rubbing.

As for the RE070's, very good indeed (had them on my SpecC and they are awesome in the dry and very compitent in the wet, though I never went through any standing water in them and that's were tyres like this are supposed to be weakest).

Yip, i agree with BlueBoy.
225/45-17 on an et53 wheel will not fit with standard suspension. The rear tyres are solid against the strut.

I know because i've tried. I switched to 215/40-17, and these fit no probs.

Yes they seem to fit ok,

My mate bought a set of 2003 STi alloys with 225/45x17 tyres, from Ethanrob a few weeks ago.
Fitted them to his '97 UK Turbo - no rubbing.
Note, the car runs standard suspension and hasn't been lowered.

gr1 - If you are looking to buy these from me (off of EBAY) then you'll need to bid on them soon as I might have a local(ish!) buyer for them at £530 inc delivery. I'll have an answer from him on Friday night

thanks for replies.was looking at a few sets of 225/45/17s.but too much confusion to whether they foul or not.dont want to shell out then find that they rub.will need to hold out for 215s i think

I've got these on my wagon and they are just ok on the suspension but with a load in the back they don rub over the bumps and it's not a nice noise!!
