Toyo Proxes T1-S Or Pirelli P Zero??
I am looking at changing my tyres on my RB5. I currently have Pirelli P Zero 205/45/17
I have seen a better offer on Toyo Proxes T1-S 215/45/17. What would you recommend. Would I be able to fit the widder tyre???

If you reduce the size of the sidewall of the tyre, (lower the profile), without also increasing the size of the alloy it is attached to, you'll end up with a smaller wheel.
In theory, this means that you won't be travelling as far for each revolution of the wheel, and so you'll actually be going slightly slower than you did on your previous set of tyres, (and slower than indicated by the speedo). Don't know if it would make enough difference to notice, but it would be there....

Profile is relative to width not absolute.
I use 215/45R17 and they improve the ride quality and lengthen the gearing, which is nice when running 400 lbft. Speedo is possibly closer to the truth than 205/50R16 or 215/40R17 or 205/45R17, but most like to have an optimistic speedo.
Goodyear Eagle F1 are generally a bit more expensive than Toyo T1-S, but IMHO in a different league - they seem to wear better, make less noise, nicer ride and grip better in all conditions. Toyos are a bit squirmy IMHO, and definitely scarier in the wet. But a lot of it is opinion and preference. Opinions on Toyos vary a lot.

Iain, the profile number is a percentage of the tyre width. A 45 profile doesn't always mean the tyre is actually larger.
Going from a 205/45/17 to 215/40/17 is a 1.34% difference in diameter
Going from a 205/45/17 to 215/45/17 is a 4.87% difference in diameter
So, the Toyo tyres Beastie recommended is very close to the original diameter. Some sites suggest a maximum differene +/- of 2.5% before the speedo under or over reads.

I think Toyos grip better than F1s in both the wet and dry but theres very little in it. The Toyos wear faster but the F1s overheat easier on a track.
Id go for F1s on a road car

Ok, So I am now thinking of the TOYO instead of the Pirelli.
As stated before, I am running 205/45/17
Would I be better going for 215/45/17 or 215/40/17's which has been recommended earlier in this thread.
Thanks

I've got them on my STI at the moment - I don't like then at all, never again!
I'm told the new avon ZZ3's are very good, but I haven't tried them.
I've also been told that the Michelin Pilot tyres are very good, and much better than the Toyo's or the F1's.

I don't like these tyres too much I must say, last set I'll buy as I think the wet weather grip is somewhat dodgy.

Bought a set of 16inch 205/50 F1 GSD3 for my MY00 in April this year, & found them to be phenomenal. However, this month, I acquired a set of 17inch Rota Tarmac2 wheels & fitted 215/40 Toyo T1-R's due to them being cheaper than F1's. Found the Toyos to be quieter, and so far, grippier in the wet. I appreciate that this isn't comparing like for like as the tyre width has gone up 10mm & due to the different offset the track has gone up 10mm as well, but food for thought?!

I have just returned form the tyre centre after having a new set of 215/45/17 Toyo T1s fitted, they removed my std 16" wheels with potenza RE030's 205/50/16 and put the new wheels and tyres straight on, strangely enought the steering felt a lot more slack and response was wooly to say the least but they are very quiet and the gears seem longer than before, will mess around with pressures and see what happens.
any suggestions what pressure i should be running for normal road use?? I was thinking 35 front and 32 rear??

Go with the F1's.
I had F1's with my 17"s and they were very good all round, my 18"s came with Toyo's T1-s not very good in the wet. And with the roads we got you know you need lots of grip in the wet.
The Toyo's have just warn out and am replacing with F1's.
