I have the same wheels...i have 225/35/18 Toyo tyres...they do rub if i have people in the car and going around a bend...and my car is not lowered....i think 40 profile will most definatly rub, unless you have your arches rolled in..

what tyres are you using at the mo? i'm running p-zeros (225/35) and haven't had any probs with rubbing (with 4 up and lowered on eibachs)
apparently the side walls of different tyres make a bit of difference to clearance, i'm going for eagle F1's next and it seems they may rub a little under heavy load.
hope this helps rather than confuse

Im using Toyo T1s tyres..though they do not rub as much anymore as i very rearly have people on the back seats...
Though i was looking to go a size smaller more to do with the road noise..

I have Turini 18 x 8" with 225x40x18 Pirelli PZero on a '97 wagon. The nearside rear wheel arch chewed the tyre wall on cornering and with any weight in. Had the rear arch lips folded up but it can still touch with weight in and hitting undulations in the road. There's also evidence of the front tyres touching the suspension leg, rubbed a bit of paint off.
I suppose I was fortunate with the wheel offset as a few mm one way or the other would have caused real problems.
