Question Getting the pistons out of the calipers.

Am in the middle of doing my brakes. Have got a caliper serivce kit. Cant seem to get the pistons out of the calipers. Only managed to get on out by taking pads and disc off and pumping brakes. This obviously only works for one piston as the brake fluid coming out with it. Have removed seals etc.

Any suggestions?

Literally just done this on my 911!

with the caliper in the vice, a 'G' clamp on one piston to stop it coming out and the other piston 'free' to move I connected a foot pump to the brake pipe union and applied air pressure slowly (as in s l o w l y) and hoped/watched the 'free' piston advance out to about nearly half way into the gap usually filled by the disc/pads. At this point the piston is about ready to pop past the seal.
Change it all over, G clamp holding back the previous piston and pump it up again till in much the same extended position, then push again on the pump with a big rag ove the caliper etc to catch the shower of fluid as it blows out.

Clean and pop it back in just up against the lip of the seal, hold with G clamp. Apply pressure and the almost out free piston pops. Fluid everywhere.
You can then gently ease the last piston out.

There, the caliper and all exposed.

Done it this way for absolutly years and years. will even get rusted pistons out, they just pop more spectcularly

Pleanty of WD40 is good, and sometimes clamping the piston into the cylinder helps to free things off.

Graham.

yes you should do what you have done , but then the pistons that come out easy put something between them and the discs to stop them coming out all the way , once you have the pistons nearly all out , remover the caliper , strip it in half and pull out the pistons with grips or something similar , but only grip the lip at the top of the pistons , DONT damage the face that runs on the seals themselves or they are scrap
