17" tyre size doubt
Hi.
Just bought a set of new 17" OZ Superleggeras for my MY99. Now i need to get tyres for them and I'm a bit confused with what to get.
I'm basically between 215/40/17 and 215/45/17.
215/40 is a bit below the original 205/50/16. 215/45 is a bit above. I'm more inclined to get 215/45 because i can get better prices on them (a lot more offer), and also because the roads here in Portugal are not very good and I've had some friends of mine cause damage to their wheels with 215/40 when going over holes.
But most people here on SN run 215/40 on classics, which leaves a bit confused with what to get. Is the 215/45 a bad choice?
Would the difference it tyre radius between the 40 and 45 profile cause a very noticeable difference in acceleration?
Thanks,
Paulo

Ok mate, so you are awear of the errors across the various tyre sizes you mention. Good.
I have a set of 17's and for comfort and cosmetics i went for the 45 profiles. Fills the arches lovely.
Look at it this way buy the larger profile tyre (the 45's) as the tyre wears the error can only get better. At just over 2% imo it's not worth worrying about. Really not noticed any difference in get away performance either to be honest.
I sort opinions of many before i settled for the 45's. Your call mate. Good luck.
