Default 225s on a WRX?

Can I fit 225 tyres on rims designed for 215s?

I'd really like a set of Bridgestone Re070s but they don't do them in 215s...

I wouldn't risk it, assuming you have a classic WRX you are likely to get rubbing on the rear arches

But in answer to your question, yes im sure you can.

It's for a newage - WRXs come with 215s and STIs come with 225s(errr I think )...

Please be aware that the STi has 7.5" rims, and the WRX has 7", so allowing for some of the 215 - 225 difference.

I was checking this (I have an 02 WRX) and all the info I found was that the 225 tyres are recommended for a wheel width of 7" to 8.5", so should be OK, but I would try contacting the manufacturer to verify this.

For the 225's the measurements are all taken for 7.5" rims.

I stuck with 215's as I had a scheduled track day and didn't want to take any risks - coward that I am

I've had 225/45R17 tires on since new, no problems at all during 8000kms. Just keep in mind that all tires are not the same size, even though they are marked as same (differences between brands).

My tires are Nokian winter tires as I had to drive from Finland to UK in the middle of winter (in Nordic countries you're required to use winter tires during winter months).

I've got Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45's on my new age WRX and they're fab! Much more braking and cornering power not to mention stability! The ride improves too!
- They also look HUGE!

hi, do you experience any tramlining with the larger tyres? I've heard fitting the STi wheel to a WRX can cause this.

Just under 500 quid for 4, though id ensure that you take it to a place that can actually put them on the rims you have, they have a VERY solid sidewall (as the guy at the garage said whilst bouncing up and down on them without them giving any!! )

The RE070's will tramline until you wear them down a little, once worn, not much will be able to stick with you on a dry road, evo's included and they are even pretty good in the wet but the larger the diameter, the greater the chance a tyre will tramline, and be noisier.

I have 02WRX and asked Subaru to fit RE070 to my rims, they said no as they where not sure about the width of the rim

So i had them done else where, and yes they fit and yes you should do it, i payed £350 for a set of 4 off ebay and they come up quite regular.

None at all - in fact they seem to tramline less!
