TOYO R888 vs TOYO T1-R
Hi,
Can anybody tell wich one is the best suited for fast road keeping in mind the rainy weather we all have in UK and Belgium.
Where can I see the best prices for both tyres?
Thanks
Daniel

The T1R's are road tyres with very deep tread, super in the wet but there are better road tyres. I prefer Goodyear Eagle F1's.
If you do want something like the R888's, id recommend having a look at Yokohama A048R's (medium compound) instead. they grip as well but seem to last a lot longer.
on a slightly damp track the R888's/A048R's are very good.

Agree with Hampton there, R888's are very soft compound, very good for outright grip on the road but too soft for trackwork in the summer.
Will be changing to something like the A048R's in the not too distant, coming straight from the R888's after less than 1000 miles so far.. (abusive trackdays included)

depends how wet you're talking. wet roads don't seem to phase them too much ( no worse than a crap road tyre) but standing water... forget it..

The R888s are not that soft, we in the UK have the hardest compoun of the range available right now. Having seen them used on an R33 at rockingham, I would say they actually stand up very well to hard use. They do seem quie soft when cold though, which seems like agood choice for drag racing and sprint/hillclimb.

Oops. Bit late back to this post.
Just to clarify, the R888s are actually quite good in damp conditions, but hit any standing water at sensible speeds and expect to loose any sense of control. You would of course expect this and can't really criticise the tyre for it.

Excellent tyre for the job its expected to do. Not really a "road tyre" apart from getting you legally to a track and back again.

Just returned from a trackday in France where Yokohama A048's, Toyo R888's and Toyo TR-1's were being used (in the dry) and to and from the track (in the wet) and would comment:
R888 had the best grip and least tyre squeal in the dry but least grip in the wet.
TR-1 had the least grip, most tyre squeal and wore the most in the dry but probably had the edge on the other two in the wet.
A048 sat between the two in both dry and wet conditions.
None of these tyres are suitable for hillclimbing (this is from 4 years experience) as the compaund is not soft enough. Bear in mind you have about a 30 or 40 second run and the tyres simply do not get warm enough. With production cars you are of course restricted to certain tyres for hillclimbs. However, for modified production cars, you cannot beat the super sticky Avon's but they would be useless on track as they would wear out too quickly and of course aren't cheap !.

For track days I personally use R888's which over my preferred Sport Cups were 2 seconds a lap quicker (same driver, same set up, same conditions & same wheels ).
After extensive use at a track, my preferred tyres would be Toyo T1R's though at the moment I am running T1S's......that will soon change
R888's Phenomenal road legal slick & awesome on track, though not so good with standing water...
T1R's awesome road tyre & spectacular in the wet
