To Shim or not to Shim....that is the question!

Hi All,
I have just changed all disks on MY00 for Tarox, and with mintex 1155 all round.
Here is the question, the previous set of pads had no shims attached to the back of the front pads when i removed. Now the mintex pads came with no shims, do I need to get some shims to put on the pads, or is it ok to run without?
The pads will move slightly (about 1mm or less) in the caliper if tugged and pushed hard enough at the moment
any ideas?

If i remember correctly, the shims are on there so you dont have to bed the pads in (as much but still do so) so all you have to do is take it easy, but you may find that the 1144's would have done the job just as well if not better than the 1155's as they take a little more warming up ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I was just concerned about the slight movement of the pads in the caliper
they seem to stop pretty well in the cold at the mo, thanks for the recommendation though.....the redstuff & EBC turbo grooves i had a few years ago were utter crap

It shouldn't matter from a performance point of view. Mintex do a sort of bitumen type sticky pad which sticks onto the back of the brakepad, and your pistons push into this which stops the pad from moving around.
All that will happen otherwise is you may get a slight clonk as the pads settle from pressing the brake when in reverse gear. No problem really.
