Wanting to upgrade the brakes on my 93 WRX, which I believe are 277mm.
Can I fit 4 pots from an early STI straight on, or would I need the bigger disks?

Don't want to upgrade disks and pads, then find out I needed bigger disks for the 4 pots (when I find some at a good price!)

Yes you need some 294mm discs to go with the 4 pots , get in quick to the group buy for godspeed discs as it finishes today , £110 a pair for grooved !
