Default front 4 pot calipers (MY99 UK Turbo)

can anyone tell me what the circled bit "extra" is in the first picture compared to the secon picture. the first is near side front 4 pot caliper and the second is the front offside front 4 pot caliper.

Thanks.

Max

Don't worry about that bit, it is merely a wear indicator, in that, when the pads wear down, that 'springy' bit touches the disc and squeals like a pig on steriods...... you'll probably find that on the side without it, it's on the other side of the disc.....

Yep I can go with that but they seem to be a bit low and scrape on the hub. Should they be a little higher and ready to touch the disc? Or would that damage the disc when the pads get that low?

Sorry for being a bit of a numptie!

That is the anti rattle clip to stop the pads rattling in the calipers. Looks like it has been fitted upside down in the first photo. Should look like the second. i.e. the wings you see sit at the top of the pad by the locking pin and not the bottom.

definately isn't the anti-rattle clip......................pad wear indicator as above, normally find that either all four pads have them or none at all - dependant on make...............

don't worry about it, perfectly fine

Default Caliper painting

A little off your topic but the best way is to paint the whole caliper, then get a stiff sponge dip in paint and a gentle dab does the job perfectly, just my 2 p worth.
