Default Toyo 888's street legal slicks.....

What price can you get these for in UK? While loud, I can get a set for ~330 quid (as opposed to ~480 for PZ Corsa's). Is good?

Thanks, Richard

You want to check shipping costs from Swissieland to you first?

I'm putting a set on the Sti tomorrow so I'll let you know what I think, taking off Dunlop Supersport Race which have done me about 12,500 miles including TOTB, rated as a slightly harder wearing compound ... we will see.

Harder = less grip?
My Kumho's are replaced today with more of the same.

At Autosport show, talked with their tyre top guy, and he said if they last more than 6K miles I'm not trying hard enough...mine are 8K and absolutly sh@gged.

Will be very interested to hear how Toyo's are after you have scrubbed them in.
Surprised you have not gone for Dunlop D1oJ as a track tyre (Kumhos in soft are certainly a hill climb tyre)

Graham.

Depends on the size. 205/40/17 can be had for around £430 per set. 215/45/17 are much more expensive, closer to £600.

I've had 2 sets of these. IMO they are a brilliant summer road tyre, but not good for track. Too soft. They are right on it straight away, first corner. They go off after a few laps though and wear very quickly. I will be going for DZ02G next (no D01Js left now unfortunately in 215/45/17).

Exactly as I find them...

Not sure of what to try next then if the D01J's have finished.

Will finish off these R888's first time out at coombe I expect, far too fast a track for them.

Ok they are on, first impressions were "made a mistake" as the car "pushed" noticably but after 35 miles second impressions were "no I didn't", just got in after 110 miles of spirited driving down the Fosse Way and these are good tyres, excellent turn in and confidence building enough to allow me to put them against the wheel arch liners. May be helped by having to take a certain modification off the steering rack as it appears it was causing the rack to twist on its clamps. My very loud squeak has now gone !!

My comment re wear was down to the Dunlops being stated as 60 and the Toyos as 100 for wear.

Size is 215-45-17, set tyre pressures at 34 all round as a start.

I went looking for more Dunlops but there weren't any around that I could find, was quoted £96 plus for 225-45-17's but they would have been a bit tight. I think I am going to like these Toyo's.

I want a tyre that I can use on the road all the time as well, which is why I went for the Dunlops first time round.

cheers

As a road tyre I think they are pretty much unbeatable.

Stay off the motorway if it rains heavily though.
That is seriously scary!

You don't get that with the Kumhos....

Interesting comments.
Are the Toyo's traction AA?

a good scrubbing in makes all the difference.

You cant plan the weather Floyd !

carrying a spare set of rain tyres I think is a bit over the top.

Just got to remember that a compromise arises when the rain falls.

I have not really used them in the driving rain, but in all other on-road conditions I've found them better than anything else. Streets better in fact. As a road tyre I think you can't beat them, so long as you accept that they won't last too long. They never get too hot on the road, and they are soft enough to work in cold conditions. In the wet (but not standing water) they are also brilliant.

One other bit of experience I had which might be of use - they are only good for one lap of the Ring at a time. You can't go off and straight back on again with these if the weather is warm, they need a good 30-40 mins to cool down.

Floyd yesterday I used them in standing snow ... and they weren't a real problem, traveling down the Fosse from near Warwick, got to Morton and it started, by Stow it was virtually a blizzard, ran across the top to Burford at the usual pace without any issue, ok wasn't driving it like you would in the dry but at least as good as normal road tyres. Out from Burford and roads are wet, still fine. I avoid standing water under any circumstances even when using normal tyres. As Andy mentions motorways can be bad for that.

Top half of the drive down they were spot on, scrubbed nicely now.

Traction is AA Graham.

happy so far

cheers

Bob, interesting. I had a run in a CSL with Pilot cup tyres on. We avoided any damp like it was the plague! Fab in the dry though. Perhaps these aren't as bad in the wet? Thing is I'd only use them for the track or Ring as I'd consider it a waste in normal traffic(heavy) conditions.

Out again this evening, loads of rain, roads wet but as usual avoided standing water, skittish to start with then steadied after about 10 miles, not any different to the Dunlops, I'm being wary due to some of the comment but I really don't get the feeling that I would get if the car was starting to think about letting go, I can sense that coming a mile away.

I can't say whether they are "good" or "bad" in the wet really but they are honestly no diferent in reality to me using normal road tyres (Goodyear F1's say) as I have to take the same care.
