Nokian WR get a good mention as do Michelin Alpins.
Personally I run Toyo Snowprox in 205/45/17's and find these are pretty good is really sh1tty, snowy roads and not that bad in the dry.
Stick the 18's back on in a few weeks, I reckon, with Goodyear GSD3's on

I rate my Michelin DRICE tyres, available only in Japan. The X-ICE have supplanted the DRICE as the No 1 Michelin winter tyres here, again, only available in Japan. I would expect the Michelin Alpin Sport generation 2 would be pretty good.
Friends are perfectly happy with their Pirelli's too.

I've been running the Michelin Aplin Sport PA2s for the past few months. I've been very impressed with them so far in poor conditions.
Amazing grip/traction on snow compared to standard tyres. I was able to brake and stop downhill on very slippery snow/ice, when a VW polo on skinny normal tyres wasn't, and slid right across a main road.
A bit soft and understeery in dry conditions, but that's to be expected due to the compound and tread design etc.
