Yes.

But if you do it on a Subaru it will b*gger up the centre diff during the fairly short time between installing them and crashing it.

(The front and back wheels are both driven by the engine, so it wants them to go round at pretty much the same speed. Seriously, it is a Bad Idea)

It will cope, but at the expense of wearing out and possibly ruining the handling while it is doing it.

The difference in circumference between the 205 and 215 tyres is an inch, the limit recommended by Subaru is a lot less than that - about a quarter of an inch of circumference (less than a couple of mm of tread wear).

The space-saver is 'supposed' to be the same circumference as the original wheel/tyre combo, and it is supposed to be for short distances, at low speed, in an emergency. That's different from driving around for months at normal speeds with mismatching sizes.

the circumference is an inch??
my maths is shody please explain
215/40/17 vs 205/40/17
so there 10mm wider and 40%profile of 10mm is 1 inch extra circumfrence?

this seams extreme??

the low speed might be down to the ****e rubber that is fitted to the space saver, in order to save space???

the space saver is the same even if you buy bigger dealer option wheels?

what about the prodrive 18" p1 jobbies?

lower profile tyres or not, they are still not the same size as a regular wheel tyre combo

40% of the extra 10mm is 4mm.

Difference in circumference is 2*Pi*(difference in radius) = 2*3.14*4, which is close enough to 25mm (an inch).

Even with bigger dealer option wheels the overall size is supposed to be the same, to keep the speedo correct, or at least just as incorrect as before.

ok, it's a no no... but i am running different tyres compared to the front/back with different tread.. virtually new on front (contisport contact2) and not too much left on rears (pzero's)...

my mate at work (sti v8) has eagle GSD's on front and sp sport on rear.. so some do and yet others say it's bad.. ?
