Default Redstuff disintegration on trackday!

Hiya,

Curious one this. The Coltishall trackday last Friday had some hard braking and I had fade-free strong braking all day (110 miles!) with my newly-fitted Compbrake 4-pots and HP+ pads. I could consistently reel-in a scoob with around 100bhp more than mine (but with Brembo 4-pots) in the braking zone for example. Stability on the brakes was good too, surprisingly perhaps, with 1-pot rears and the ABS switched off.

At the end of a session, the rear wheels were a little hotter than the fronts. Then on the journey home the rears were making unhealthy gravelly noises. Turns out that the EBC Redstuff pads at the rear are all cracked and crumbly, with an uneven loose-ish surface. Anyone else had this?

Replacements should match the front compound I guess, but I'm tending towards DS2500/30000's as that's what I''d like to try next on the front instead of the Hawk pads.

cheers
Andy

Faulty pads?
Send them back to the makers for their comments.

I ran DS2500 up front and OE rears and had similar problems.

I now run Pagid Blues up front and Yellowstuff R at the rear and no probs as yet

I had brake fade everytime I went out Andy, was really annoying. Think Im going to get some ds2500's front and rear and some uprated braided hoses and rbf600 fluid. That track was hard on the brakes

Hi Paul,
Twas indeed hard on brakes. Quite refreshing to have consistent brakes through each session, even if the tyres did turn to jelly! On most corners I could brake at the 100 (metre?) board and still have margin for error. Which car were you in?

Andy,

like you i run the compbrake kit with the hp plus pads. phenomenal braking and like you outbraking most cars on the track. However the rotor wear was very high and the amount of brake dust on the wheels, stop me keeping them in for the road (Still can't get all the brake dust of the track wheels),
I run the Pagid fast roaf/race pads on the standard 1pot rears and they we're great too.
Although i may upgrade to the compbrake rears.
My o nly issue is the rattling. I can settle on this for the front, but i think double that and i'll have an issue.

Why do you run on a trackday exactly what ebc dont recommend and then complain
redstuff is strictly suitable for road use only
trackdays need yellowstuff front and rear minimum

Not complaining mate, it was just an observation.

As it was rears I didn't think it'd be too critical. Was just surprised to see that they had turned to cheese . Can you run yellows on the road, any downsides (presume slow to work from cold?)? Don't really want to have to switch both front and rear for each trackday.
