should be picking up another set of rims this week and i'm tempted to keep the REO70's off the road thru the winter and get some more damp friendly tyres.
just had a look at some winter tyres and they're about £120 each for a decent make
is there a cheaper alternative?

I just brought some toyo s952 from www.mytyres.co.uk , cost me £358 inc delivery for 4... cheapest i could find and the service was very good. I have used the standard alloys that came wity my WRX after i brought some 18" wheels earlier inthe year. I think it is a good idea after last year running on summer tires over the winter ,my car was all over the place!

I've got Toyo Snowprox for the winter months.
Bought them with another set of 17's as a package, about £900 all in.
They are great in the winter and have got me out of some really sh1ty situation where lesser cars have become stuck and summer tyres might have well been slicks.
Although they were originally for my classic I've used them over the last 2 winters on my blobeye with no problems and they still have a good amount of tread left.

I'm going to get a set of Colways finest winter tyres on my spare rims this year. About £30 a corner.
Bit of a bummer though as "someone" (not me) drove my car a bit too far on a flat last year and I can't get a replacement of the same design to replace it, so have three nearly new Falken Espia tyres that are now redundant, as I believe (myth or fact??) that all three should be the same make etc.
The worst bit is, I know the Falkens are superb as I've been to the Alps on them and they were the bee's knees in several very slippery situations where other cars were 100% stuck. They are like driving on liquorice in warmer or wet conditions though, but you adapt your driving and they can be good fun.
Nige.
