Default question about JDM's on 235 RE070.....

Have a spec c arriving soon which I am told runs 235 RE070 potenzas. As far as I'm aware these aren't available in the UK as 225's are the norm over here.
So what do you JDM owners with standard rims do?

run 225's? If so any noticable difference?

or use something else? If so what?

or have you all switched to 18's ?

Thanks in advance

I believe Iain Litchfield can get hold of 235s for you. Mine have just about worn out and the 18s go on next week.

Bye-bye tramlining

The 06 UK & Euro STI's are 235's now so I would think that they will be easily available to buy very soon.

i had this problem a few weeks ago when i got 2 puctures.Litchfields were the only people who had them in the country that had them.Bridgestone UK denied the tyre even exsisted.think they were £130 each plus delivery.don't expect to pop to quick fit and get some.i ended up getting 4 new tyres

So they're worth finding then? Guess I just can't see how they can be that much better than the readily available 225's. Only 10mm extra width. Suppose they must fit them for a reason

I'm on my third set and love these tyres - good in the wet, unbelieveable in the dry (**** in the snow though). Litchfield is the only place I know you can get them but I think he also uses P-Zero Rosso's for his cars as they're cheaper and easier to get hold of.

Will probably go for the Pirellis when I have to replace again (unfortuately fairly imminent).

As GazTheHat says, yes, BIG time. Around my part of the country so many roads are badly worn that it really restricts what I can do, meaning in some situations I drive probably 30% slower than I did in my old STi IV on its Goodyear F1s.

My 18s will be wearing Toyo T1Rs, so I am looking forward to the change big time.

you could just get the geometry set up properly and then the tramlining disappears and you have oodles of grip from the RE070's

Are you suggesting that the PowerStation setup is no good then?

The UK and JDM rims are the same. My JDM car actually drove better on 225s, I can't see any reason not to switch when the time comes.

Echo this,

The RE070 are about as sticky as you get from a road tyre. Absolutely awesome on track too!!

Get the geometry done properly too

So you ran the 225's and thought they were better....interesting. No noticable reduction in grip? Can't see that there would be, other than maybe on track.

On a dry road, both had more grip than I was prepared to try to exploit. The 225's tramlined less, though.

On a wet road, I hated the feel I got from the RE070 and always found myself driving rather more cautiously than I ever used to in my Classic UK car on more conventional tyres (S-02PP were the best, until they were discontinued).

but if you bought a spec c from there - would it be done as standard ??

if not, then that is why it tramlines.

Mine doesnt with RE070's... figure that

Thumbs up

Re070's have superb grip in the dry, pretty good in the wet, dodgy in the the very wet, wear quickly, don't tramline when new, tramline very badly after half worn which is quite tricky under hard braking. Turn in, virtue of hard sidewalls is excellent. However pros and cons........set number 4 coming up (hope it doesn't snow!)

4 track days, 1 sprint and 13 laps of the nurburgring
