Default Removal of headsheilds behind discs

Is there any real issue with removing these? When i fitted my new brakes these rubbed the back of the new discs which became annoying, not to mention was ruining my new discs!!

I removed them yesterday and drop back to my place which is around 30 miles no issues at all....so was contemplating leaving them off.

Any real downside to this? what exactly are the "shielding" heat from anyway?

Don't think they're anything to do with heat I think all they do is stop a lot of water continually spraying onto the disc in torrential rain. Took mine off 4 years ago when I fitted my AP's. Been off ever since. No problems found.
