Default Colway CS790 winter tyres

Colway CS790 winter tyres

Anyone had any experience with these tyres as I am hopefully taking my classic impreza to the French Alps for a week in December.
You can get a full set online for £120
I would probably use these during the winter period in the UK and for my trip to the Alps and then change back to normal tyres.

I took my wrx to the French Alps in February a few years for a skiing holiday.
Picked up a set of classic 16" alloys and winter tyres and it was superb. Driving past brits in their floundering X5's whilst looking very smug was great fun. However, the tyres I had weren't CS790's and I was unable to find a matching replacement for the one that got damaged.

I am however contemplating a set of CS790's for winter myself. Colway have a great reputation throughout clubman rallying circles and have been around for ages.

So here's a free bump as the two of us would now like to know.....

I've always been nervous of using remoulds just because you don't know the history. However, £120 for a set seems pretty good value.

Colway have a very good name in tyres but watch the speed rating. It's unlikely to match the OE tyres and your insurance company may not like that.

Yes but the O/E tyres are rated for over 150mph.

v8voodoo, I believe they were my old snow wheels you had.. good fun weren't they ?

as for colway, I have been thinking about a set of off-road tyres for the Navara, haven't really heard a bad word for them yet, most say they wear twice as fast as BF Goodrich equivlents, but they only cost a quarter of the cash, so who cares ?

alot of off roaders are using remoulds, and they get quite a hard life.. they seem to be up to that..

however "remould" is not something that inspires confidence when talking about tyres and the only contact point between yourself and the road.. (don't know why though, as they have the same tests as a new tyre) ?

Hello 2000..!!

Yes buddy, they were your old snow set. Struggled to get a matching replacement after one punctured, then I go and buy an 06 STi with a different stud pattern anyway..!! Maybe they'll be back up for sale soon .

They were fantastic in the crappy weather and on my trip to the Alps were nothing short of astonishing. As grippy on snow and ice as all-seasons are in the rain if not more..!!!

Would just drive straight past most of the other tourist cars which were floundering in the towns, but on the way home it was bad snow and the motorways were down to crawling pace. On those tyres, I was wondering what all the fuss was about as X5's slid all over the place .

Now I can see why tyre choice is so important in the WRC..!!!!!
