Who has run 225/45x16" on MY97 UK Turbo?

I've tried in vain to get an response from this BBS on the issue of running with larger than usual wheels.
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=68166
After some research I have discovered that the standard 205/50 tyre size is best for 16x6.5"-wide wheels, where tyre suppliers recommend going half an inch either way on wheel width before you compromise the tyre profile and thus handling characteristics due to effects on the sidewalls and contact area.
In my case I have 16x7.5" wheels that I need to know how best to run on my Eibach-fitted Scoob (if at all!). The recommended tyre size for this wheel width is 225/45. The standard 205/50 will be significantly affected by stretching across this gap.
So, is their any reason for me not to run with these wheels and tyres? What is in their favour?
I need to know because 1) if no good I will return the wheels to the supplier and look for something else and 2) if anyone has run 205/50 on a 16x7.5" wheel without comparative adverse effect (e.g., handling, wheel-arch clearance, coping with bumps or potholes) than I will opt for those cos they're alot cheaper than the larger (and much better looking I must say!) 225/45 tyre (for reference, I was quoted £100/corner fully fitted for 225/45 F1's).

Now I'm really confused so please can someone reply!
Just got off the phone with Barry at BN Performance who reckons that 225/45 is too wide for the car and is recommending 215/45 instead. He is going to ring me back with prices for F1's and Toyo's, for both sizes.
There must be someone out there, who can offer sage advice? At the moment I am less and less enamoured with these RIM2000's I have and tho the price was great am ready to run them back to TSL and get my money back. As an aside, are these wheels up to a 40 mile/day,5 days/week run on B-roads, anyway??
Frustrated

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO-ONE CAN HELP ME (or cares to ...)!!!!
C'mon you guys n' gals - teach a muppet a thing or two if this is such a stoooopid question.
A follow-on question from this is that I know that for the RB5 the recommended tyre for the standard 16-inch wheel was 205/50 but also 215/40 (or was it 215/45??). If that's the case have any of you RB5 owners run with this lower profile tyre and how did affect ride comfort? My daily drive is 40 miles over B-, C- and D-roads (ie single track with cattle grids a.k.a. rally-roads).
Thanks for your help!!!!!

225's will rub on the rear wheel arches.
Stick with 215 maximum width and you will be OK.
Check the offset of your wheels as well, as if the number is too low (ie less than about 48), then there is a chance with a 7.5 inch wide wheel that again you'll have clearance problems at the rear.
