![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi
Having recently replaced front disks and pads(40k) on my MY99 turbo
i was wondering how long the rears last on average compared to the fronts which obviously do most of the work. Also is it worth uprating the rears when they go or will that be asking for trouble as the fronts would still be standard at that time.
TIA
Pete S

I've found that with both 96 and 99 cars I've owned the rear pad/disc combo needs replacing more often because of corrosion (through lack of use) than wear. In both cases when I have replaced them its been due to partially siezed calipers. First thing you'll notice is the shiny area on the disc becomes little more than a thin stripe!
Generally uprating them is a pointless exercise for the average driver, as I say they do a tiny proportion of the stopping job anyway. Certainly do front first.
I take my calipers off and lubricate the piston every year in the spring now, to avoid siezure. This seems to be the best thing to do on any 'one-sided' sliding caliper to keep them doing there job IMHO.
