Well, I agree with your initail thoughts, I got the AP six pot conversion for my 03 STI and I can't fault them at all. Although, having said that, you really need to be on the track to notice the real difference over the STI Brembos, and there is a massive difference!
I think it really depends if you want track brakes or road ones? The conversion I got was the 355mm disks, but they need 18" wheels. If you want to spend that sort of money I would pick them every time.
So, questions are, whats the budget, what size wheels do you have, and what are you going to use them for?

The K Sport 8 pot setup cannot be over looked here. Excellent value for money and Paul's brakes of choice on the Zen Performance time attack car.
That has to be a massive endorsement as to how good they are.
Incedently the 330mm AP kit uses a slightly different Caliper which is regarded by some as being better than the 355mm offering.
The 330 Kit will also weigh alot less (the smaller unsprung weight the better) . Personally I'd go with the 330kit which will go under 17inch wheels. This would be more than adequate for everything but serious, serious, track abuse.

If you have unlimited funds, then I would say AP's on all four corners any day. BUT I agree with Daz, the K-sports should not be ignored, they are excellent value for money. You can buy front and rears for the same money as an AP front setup, the quality is good ... and you will definitely notice the difference over the stock Brembo's.

aps are like £1600 plus fitting!!!
if you currently have stock brakes on the wrx , they are pretty poor. I know , used to have them myself.
I have now got ebc disks ( grooved and dimpled), new hoses, and ferodo ds2500 all round. You would be surprised how good they are.
obviously alot cheaper than changing to bigger calipers, but better value for money.

I have some 2003 front Brembos, Tarox sport Japan disks, and DS 2500 pads sitting in my garage if you ever wanted to go down that route.
They came off mine when I upgraded to the APs a while back.
