Default Getting rid of runflat tyres

Anyone know of any problems putting standard tyres on a cooper s that is currently on runflats?
I'm sick of the things and want some real grip

Thanks in advance, monkey.

As Above, just change them. I had a 1 series M Sport BMW. Standard tyres were horrible run flat noisy buggers.

I just swapped them for normal tyres and everything quietened down and the car was alot more comfortable.

Nope its a common misconception.
Its just the tyres that are different. They have harder shoulders that don't fold when the tyre has no air.

I'm pretty certain that rims designed for runflats have an extra groove for the tyre bead. I realise that the sidewalls are stiffer so you can run on 'flat' tyres, but I seem to remember the diagrams I have seen show a 'J' shaped groove that the shaped bead on the runflat tyres engages with to prevent them coming off the rim if driven hard with no air in them ?

I work for Jaguar and we had a proposed set of 19" alloys for the XK which would only have been available with runflat tyres. When Jag saw the feedback BMW were getting from runflat users (harsh ride and more road noise due to stiffer sidewalls) they dropped the wheel from the range. This leads me to believe that some rims are designed for runflats only ?

friend of mine, put some run flats on his civic as they came cheap , once fitted they kept going down as the tyre would not seal on the standard rim ,so pretty sure there must be a extra lip for it to seal to the rim , plus there must be more than just a stiffer wall to stop the tyre popping over the rim when it did go down

Then I must have been lucky on all of the four tyres I swapped.
I love this a friend of mine has told my mate and my mate told me crap.

I have actually swapped out four of my own run flat tyres for non run flat tyres on my own car without problems. This was on a 2005 BMW 120D M sport with 18inch Rims

Perhaps you're both right. Daz successfully fitted non run flat tyres to run flat rims and Maydews mate tried to fit run flat tyres to non run flat rims.

Perhaps run flat tyres need an extra groove inn the rim but can take non run flat tyres OK.

I run Toyo T1R's on the O.E. Cooper S 17's without any issues, the runflats are just awful and tramline badly on the motorway
