From my experience the only noticeable difference from 17's to 18's on my P1 was the ride quality was harsher, you could 'feel' the rpad more due to the lower profile.
The only time Ive experienced tram lining is at low speed which is not a problem and only happens occasionally when the road forces it.

I was pondering about this but just bought myself a set of Compomotives and stuck with 17"s.
The ride is always a bit harsher with a bigger wheel.
I'd rather stick with what Subaru think is the best wheel size.
I dont think you will have a problem though on 18's its just a personal preference.
