Default 18" Winter Tyres - Recommendations?

I know it maybe else where but just quick answers would be much appreciated. Car coped really well last night, took some very steep hills and had to weave between given up and failing other drivers. But I was worried as I still have the 'standard' tyres suited for the summer. I don't do too many miles so a tyre suitable for all year round may be better as it is nearly 3 years since the last snow.

Also why do idiots follow you right up your a*se when going up and down hills in such conditions rather than laying off or waiting? I did this and everyone started overtaking me thinking I'd stopped or didn't want to lose any time.

What tyre you got on, REO70s?

Better to get a set of proper winter tyres and stick them on 17"s if it's a newage or 16" on a classic

Sorry forgot the important bit Sti Hawk-Eye. Don't really have the space to store a spare set of wheels or I would.

I've got the same car and drove to work this morning in a couple of inches of snow no problem. I've got Goodyear F1 Asymetrics, you just have to remember that unlike rally drivers we are cr@p in the snow not to mention the fact that they have got snow/ice tyres fitted.

So best advice I can give is take your time, and don't be tempted to try any rally moves on a public road, as it normally ends up in a ditch

There are no tyres suitable forround-the-year, unless you live in,well, africa!
Threadpattern asid the rubber compund are set up for different temperatures.
If you almost never see snow or ice buy yourself a set of 'continental' style winter tyres. Usually distinguished by their high speed rating.
You can put these on in the beginning of December and change back in April, remember that you're saving your high-temperature tyres for the high temperature season so your not losing any money.
And read some of the other threads about winter tyres that loom around!

Cool

I have 215/40/17 Nokian WR M+S winter tyres on my car and they are brilliant, I have also used them all year round as I was to lazy to change them last summer. They work fine for normal driving but not sure how they would handle if you decided to cane it. They are rated at 240kmh and I have driven on them at that speed but I am sure they will overheat if driven for prolonged amounts of time at that speed.

mytyres.co.uk - Details: Nokian WR 215/40 R17 87V XL

You may say 95 quid is abit pricey but they will last you at least 5 years of winter use and also prolong the life of your summer tyres as you will not be using them. The price also included postage and packing so in the scheme of things they are not that expensive.
