Falken FK452 v Goodyear F1 GSD3
I am considering swapping my 17s for some 18s. I have shod my last 3 Imprezas with GSD3s. I replaced the RE050s with F1s on 2 Blobeyes and Pirelli P Zeros on my Classic. I have also run RE040.
Before I do the easy thing and opt for more Goodyears, I'm considering some Falkens. I've read great reviews, both from Impreza drivers and M3, 350Z etc. I've no complaints about the Goodyears, I know the GSD has been superceded, so I will be buying a different tyre. However, I fancy something different and have not heard many negatives about the Falkens. Only interested in the FK452 by the way. Thanks. Bob

I've used the 452s on my current scooby and my previous cavalier, and the 451s prior to that. Personally, I like the Falkens because they are good value for money and are a decent all round performer. I've heard people say that they can loose traction if push hard in the wet, but I don't over do it in the wet so I can't comment, but I've found it difficult to unsettle them in the dry.
Prior to Falkens I ran Yokohama A520s and these, at the time, where a better tyre in my opinion

452s are quite noisy and don't wear that well but for the price are great. Just putting a second set on my track day wheels as I type (well Just Tyres are).

Last years tires were F1's, this year I'm running 452's. TBH I can't tell much difference between them, except the price! I paid £280 for 4 falkens inc fitting last August, and £480 for F1's the previous year in August. Go figure. Highly recommend the 452's if you're on any sort of budget.

Have always stuck with GSD3s myself (despite some problems with inner walls splitting some years ago).

I've now managed to find same wheels with Yoko Paradas for same price as the Falkens. Thanks for the replies.

I previously ran Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's in 17" on my old wheels and then shod the new 18"s I bought in em too.
However, after having the car lowered, fitting uprated droplinks and rear ARB and then having geometry done I found the Goodyears were the weak link in the chain and that they lost grip a little too easily - and in the wet I found them truly scary on occasion.
The fronts also wore down around the edges in less than 8000 miles - I'm told this is because their sidewalls are fairly weak.
I've now done nearly 1500 miles on the Vredenstein Ultrac Sessantas and cannot believe how good they really are, especially given that they're virtually the same price as the GSD3's.
These tyres are in a different league trust me, the grip in dry and wet far exceeds ANYTHING the Goodyears ever offered. The only trouble is I still have GSD3's on the back and they don't grip as well so I have to be careful. But with these on the front I can enter corners faster without having to worry about sliding across the road, even in the wet. It's a different car.
I bought 2 225/40 18"s from tyremen oop North for £208 delivered next day.
