Stupid Questions Re Brembo Brake Upgrade...
Going a bit crazy about a quote I just got for fitting some newage Brembos to my V5 Classic STi. I should add I am in Japan but I still do not wanted to get shafted on labour costs!
So if you can keep with me I will give you a check list of what I have acquired to be fitted... (Can you tell me if I need anything else!?)
Also what about the prices.. they added up quickly.. I thought it would be cheaper to do then the K-Sports but a little bit of regret creeping in at the moment due to costs :-(
Brembo Calipers (plus lightly used discs) which I just got refurbished in pearl white to match the car (new seals etc. - cost £345 to buy and £220 for refurb and seals)
Picasa Web Albums - Ian - Scooby First ...
Goodrich Hoses front and rear (I know they are not necessary but I Guess it is good to do them now and get the best brake feel.
Performance Friction .11Z Pads
As I now have WRX wheels fitted (lots of snow here!) I read on other threads that I need spacers to fit so picked up some Eibach 10mm hubcentric spacers.
Now... I guess I also need 10mm longer bolts/studs.. can someone send me a link perhaps of exactly what I need as I do not want to get to the place to have it fitted and they dont have the right ones... I simply have what is on the car at the moment...
Should I also get the discs skimmed? They seem to be pretty smooth but is it standard to do this with used discs? I dont want to ruin my new pads!
To be honest I cannot believe how much this has costed.. I guess if you are a competent mechanic and can fit it all yourself.... not bad.. but right now I am wondering if I made the right choice..
As for the labour quoted today.. I nearly cried!
I thought it would be around 200 quid... but the garage said 345!!
But he was including the longer bolts LOL He also said (in broken English) that you have to cut the plate behind the standard discs (heatshield?)
What should I be paying?

Are you doing just the front brakes? the splash plates should just come off when you unbolt the subaru 4 pots, your biggest concern should be the wheels, you need new age STI spec wheels to clear the brembo's as those wrx ones wont clear them
If your pads are new then having the discs skimmed is a good idea

Yes, just the front brakes. So cutting anything and 50 quid for that or whatever is a complete pxxs take LOL Thanks.
Slightly worried about the wheels though as I read on here that the 10mm spacers I purchased should cover the brakes? Just want to double check though...
Will probably get the discs skimmed then.. as long as they don't want £100 for it! Godspeed are doing them new for that :-)

If someone came here and wanted the front brembo's fitted , I would charge them £65 including brake fluid drive in drive out , so what you have been quoted is quite expensive , you dont need to cut the back plate off , there are 3 small bolts holding it on and it takes a couple of minutes to remove.
It really is a very easy straight forward job that should take no more than 2 hours or so to do
Cheers Ian
