Just out of interest as i am looking for either a set of 17 or 18 alloys to fit my99 sti 5

what is the best offset

be it on a 17x7.5

also what about for a 18x7.5 and would that chnage if the alloy was slightly wider 18x8

would an ET48 be what i need

There should be hundreds of threads on this.

My revolution milleniums are 7.5 x 18 ET 48 and i am sure the tyres are 215 35 18.

I was tempted to go 8" wide but was worried about them rubbing.

also from what i have seen the correct offset that came out of the factory aloys was ET53 and this will sound dumb but by getting an offset ET48 what dies that do to the position of the alloy then i would assume it would make the alloy stick out further to the outer edge?

Steviie1982 are yours original Subaru wheels? I think mine are 205 55 16 tyres. I'll have a nose about as there's nothing here.

Steve, choose the wheel you like first. Offset to a certain degree, is design dependent.

I wouldn't run 18's out of preference due to the rubber band you have to run for tyres ! 215/45/17 is doable for a bit more comfort, but 215/40/17 works well using a good tyre such as the Vredestein Sessanta which as a chunkier tyre covers the rim as if you were running 225.

sorry mate what do you mean 18's out of preference due to the rubber band?

i have found a set of milleniums one choice is 8x18 or 7.5x18 as i have a set of 17 oz on the car at the minute but i want to use them to do track days so i am after a set of 18's for looks and day to day stuff.

172sport - thanks for that mate so the lower the offset the closer it gets to the arch

as silly as this sounds i have neer really understood.

so thats the offset done but what is the lowest and highest offset you can get away with on a classic? would we say et53-et48?

and what is the widest rim to run 7.5 or 8 and if you went for an 18 i would guess you need to get a et53 or would say a et48 be ok

I dont think you would have any issues running either, given the rolling radius would be pretty much the same.
After all, Prodrive run 18's on the P1 with 215/35/18

48-53 are ideal, anything smaller or bigger are not.

That ET assumes OEM brake set up Steve, what you got for stoppers on the beastie ?

Tyres are like rubber bands on 18's, 35% of 215 is not alot

So you really need to search for/post for 'wheels that clear AP4Pots'.

On my classic I run the following to clear my STi10/9 Front and rear Brembos.

17x7.5 ET48 Rota Torques clear STi Brembos
17x7.5" ET53 STi8 Wheels Clear STi Brembos

Ideally you want 17", and no more than 7.5" wide, so you can run tyres that wont rub on a slightly lower offset as well as covering as much rim as possible

18x7.5" PWRC1 (P1) wheels are ET53 and ET46, the latter being STi fitment to clear the Brembos.

I have a standard wheel setup on my WR 98 Classic, which comes with 7.5 Rota GRA 17's (ET 48 I think), and I run 215/40's, and mine rub at the back!

Does my head in- cant work out why a factory setup would rub. They do clear Brembo's though.

cheers for all your help chaps i appreciate it, so i am thinking a 17 or 18 with a width of 7.5 and i should be fine.

just one thing on the tyre front what would be the tyre size to run on a 17 and 18 alloy so there would be no rubbing or as little as possible

cheers
