Default Original and upgraded brakes...

I'm looking at upgrading all four brakes on my Classic MY00.

What pot and disc are the fornt and rear standard MY00 Turbo 2000 brakes, am i right in thinking they are four pot?

Also anyone know some online store that sell brake kits?

Thanks

Blimey, that second wheel has some serious balancing weights on it! LOL.
And they think them wheels are lighter? They made up for that in wheel weights.

On a MY 00 car, your front brakes are like the ones on BOB's second pic, ie: 4-pot SUBARU calipers with the word "SUBARU" embossed across them.

You rears are single pot sliding calipers.

Upgrades are many, depending on how much you want to spend. The calipers you have are OK so long as they are working correctly, but their effectiveness can be improved by fitting larger discs, or better pads, or both. You DO need 17" whels for the bigger discs though.

A kit to do just that can be had here: High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use

After that come different calipers, and even bigger, or two-part discs.

On the rear, the upgrade can be as little as better pads, or you can fit the Brembo calipers and discs off a newage car with a kit from Ian, above, again. That does rely on you having at LEAST 17" wheels of the correct offset.

Drop Ian a line, ian@godspeedbrakes.co.uk, for further advice from an expert. He has been making, and selling brake kits for longer than I've been on here.

Can also fit the Subaru 2 pot rears as found on Newage WRX's. 16's clear them.

Thanks

You will need the rear calipers and discs from a newage wrx, also some brackets that Godspeed or CDF can supply

And the handbrake assembly will work fine on the classic?

Also what size are the rear disks on the newage?

Thanks

Yes, it will work fine, discs direct fit regarding handbrake mech etc, you will have to remove the stone guard due to the bigger discs, 290mm IIRC

Brackets, rear discs and tech advice from AS Performance.

Rear calipers were £100 from a lad on 22b.com, brackets and rear discs from AS Performance for not a lot of money.

IIRC there's a pair of rear 2 pot calipers at AS Performance, that he may be willing to part with for a similar sort of price - 0191 4103770

There is a pair of 2 pot calipers in the for sale section , think they are £150 , I can supply you grooved discs and our kevlar pads for £125 , and the fitting kit for £39 , P & P is £12.50
Come and get the kit from the original designer not a copy
Cheers Ian

As the rears brakes are sliding 1 pot, would upgrading to 2 pot not unbalance the system?

Thanks

yes and results in a more "balanced" car, as stsd they are very under-braked on the rear.........

ABS is a wonderful thing! Unless its snowing and deep snow at that. lol.
Bigger the better! Ooeerrr.
The bigger brake kits come into their own after repeated hard stops and driving, as in on track, etc. BUT on the road, you will be stopped well before the standard setup does. The difference on stopping distances can be a lot when you consider one cars length is not that much in numbers, but its the difference between stopping and hitting the object in front of you.
Add to that, the amount of confidence and ability the proper kits have is unreal. As is always said on here, the first thing we should all upgrade is the brakes before we waste money on power!
