Default Performance friction or K-sport?

I'm looking to change my front brakes over on my 03STi and am torn between keeping the original calipers and fitting performance friction discs and pads or going for the K-sport 330mm package that is on offer in the group buys.
The car will rarely go on track days but I do need some really good stopping power for fast road use.
How are the PF discs and road pads rated against the K-sport package? is there much between them?

PF are proven stoppers that last forever.
I can't can't fault them after 40k miles and only 1/2 worn.
Not sure what the point is of stepping from 326 just up to 330mm discs? How often are the 8 pot calipers going to need seal rebuilds for road use?
Is there a catch for such a low price for calipers and disc/pads in terms of quality and longevity?

I had the same predicament and in the end opted for KSport 356mm with DS2500. Never really got to use them in anger before selling the car.

If you factor in selling the brembos (not underpriced like i did), but about £350-400, it will actually work out cheaper getting the 8 pot 356 K Sports. If they were good enough for Dynamix TA car, then i thought, must be good enough for the road.

I ran the PF discs and pads with brembo calipers for two years and they were great for fast road use and also most track use. I had enough braking and never suffered fade.

However... I upgraded to ksport 356 front and ksport 330 rears still with PF pads and they are a different league. A good 100 metres later on the brakes at least. Stunning.

Duncan - do the Ksports need seal rebuilds? I can understand their use on track with regular strip downs, but putting them on a road car and left to crud for several years doesn't sound too good.
If they are as good as they sound then the price of a full kit is outstanding.

I have used mine for about 20,000 miles so far from last feb and used them right through the winter with no issues.

Like any disc system they need regular checks to decrud the areas around the pad sliders to make sure the pads are moving freely but I have seen no more requirement to do that with the ksports than i did with the OE set up.

one of my cronies has K-sports and has upgraded to PF discs and pads....

I use them with OE Brembos and they are fine, but feel a little soft after two years track and road abuse, so may go for the Z rated pads for a change....

Would the standard Brembo set-up, with PF 'Z' rated pads be ok for mainly fast road (last of the late brakers)! With a track day, once or twice a year?
Also, I like the look of the PF front 'dimpled' disc but not sure about how it would look with the OE rear disc???
How would PF 'Z' pads do with the Godspeed front & rear grooved discs & bell?

Cheers, Iggy

I ran that exact same setup and thought they were great and are certainly good for fast road and track.

Dont you find running 330's on the rear a bit much - have you got an adjustable brake bias valve to take a bit more away from the rear?

I have tried 6 Pots 355's on the front and 4 pot 330's on the rear and the rears were way too overpowering...... buts thats on a lighter classic...

Not really sure what an ideal combination but I know its not 330's on the rear as the car is all over the place braking at 140mph into a turn..

Hi
My discs will work with any make pad , the pads are the most important part to suit the driver , whats suitable for someone , doesn't mean its suitable for your driving style.
I can also supply you Performance friction pads with our discs

Cheers Ian
