Bonnet de douche...

Bought my UK 2000 a few months back and it has the Prodrive Alcon pros front break conversion.

There has been a squeek from the offside rear but nothing too serious as they are the standard discs just drilled and grooved. However, I thought i'd take it out today (been a few weeks since the last outing) and somethings seriously wrong. The squeek has gone and is now relpaced by an almighty rumble...sounds like I have a tyre with stones in the tread running on the inner arch...almost constantly.

I can't be fked trying to repair anything and i'm lucky enough to be able to purchase a set...problem is which ones? I've heard the Alcons are considered as toy breaks so I was thinking about doing a front and rear K sport conversion, however there's no point when the cars almost standard. So which breaks should I be looking at? I don't know the offsett of the rear wheels but they were made especially for the car as it has a 22b wide arch Carbon Fiber kit on it....so if the Alcons can fit under the fronts, I think i'll be safe with 4 pots. However which make? Where do I get them? Apolgoies for the questions but I wanted to go to a show this weekend and i'm fuming that yet something else has gone wrong...

Thanks for your time

CC

The Alcon's are very good brakes , they are top notch equipment used by a lot of motor sport teams ,
If its the rears your having the noise from , again its nothing to do with the Alcons fitted to the front , it sounds to me that either your pads are worn , they have scrapers fitted to them that make an annoying noise as they scrape on the discs telling you they need changing , or your wheel bearing is shot , which both are fairly easy fixes.

Cheers Ian

could even be that you have a wheel bearing issue??

as above the Alcons can be very good.........
if it is brake related a common thing we see is the pads or caliper seized on the rear (mainly thro lack of servicing), everyone seems to simply ignore them

Thanks for the advert...

Seriously, thanks for the advice guys...I took it down to Mr Clutch in Chelmsford. I dropped it off and by the time I walked in my front door, the guys there were on the phone to me telling me it was indeed a seized caliper on a cracked break disc?! They have new pads and discs in stock but they would have to order the calipers in for tomorrow MORNING! So my car will back ready at midday AND I can still go to ML2010!!

Thank you so much indeed again for the information, it's nice to see SN is still THE place to be and the accumulative knowledge is unrivled
