Thumbs up rear brake discs

need to know the rear discs i need, i have an early classic, but fitted 2 pots

im sure there 290mm, but what is the diamitor for the hand brake shoes on the early classics.

im getting a slight nock when i first aply the brakes. i've checked & rechecked every thing. all seems fine.

but thinking of just changing the rear discs to see if this solves it
i put brembos on the front with no issues at all

I had alot of confusion when i replaced the rear discs on my 99 type r wich has 2 pots.

Cant really help you out much but the hand brake diamitor is 190mm, RCM eventually sorted me with the discs i needed, perhaps you could ask them for some advice.

Hi
The type R uses the same 2 pot calipers as the 2001 onwards WRX , and both have 290mm discs , but the WRX has a 170mm handbrake and the type R is 190mm , you need the discs with the 190mm drum to fit your car , I can supply you grooved discs next day for £135 a pair plus £12.50 P&P
Cheers Ian

thanks for that mate.
i 'll need to save some more funds, i did buy a set, but turned out to be the 170mm type.
they didnt send them, so was lucky.
i'm mainly eliminating the sound i get when driving.
1) i light wrining sound when you let go of the revs.
2) you can feel like a humping since i put these 2 pots on. thinking warped discs, as they wasnt new.
3) when boosting, theres a differnt type sound. a howling type sound. never had this before, but will be taking every intercooler hose off, to check for any leaks. or if the dv aint holding the presure.

but the first on the list, is these rear brakes

the calipers & discs must have been from a classic, as the discs i got fitted fine. apart from when you apply them the make a slight clank. this only happen when you first apply them.

still havnt found out why this is

Sorry, i meant as standard your classic must have been running single pot calipers with 266mm discs and 170mm hubs?

To do the conversion to 2 pot wouldn't you would need 290mm/170mm discs/drums from a newage WRX?

290mm/190mm if you have a Type R/RA with the R180 differencial setup?

I'm trying to understand why Ian said you need 190mm drums?

Thanks
Sam

i never measured them at all. but yes, i had 266mm solid discs
i ort to take one off & measure it first.

but aboth, 2 persons said the early classics had 190mm, only going on what they said.
but again, its a uk turbo 2000.
i always throught the discs were all the same diamitor, never had issues fitting the 2 pots & discs i recieved

Sorry I was replying to Martin type R regarding the 190mm handbrake disc.

If you have a 4 door classic , then they will have a 170mm drum , so you need the 290mm discs as fitted to the 2001 onwards WRX , which as you say are a lot cheaper , I sell these , grooved for £85 a pair.

The only classics that had the 2 pots fitted as standard are the later type R's and the 22b , and some late RA's

Hope this helps , if not , you can ring me on 01656 723060 and i'll run through it with you
Cheers Ian

that sorts that out.

thats why i wanted to make sure, i kept looking, but alot say the early classics were 190mm, but the shoes were 170mm. what better place to ask than on here.
ian godney, you say the discs are £85 the set, you said there grooved. are they cross drilled, also whats delivery.

i found a set of grooved & cross drilled, delivered for £70

and can pay paypal

I don't offer drilled discs as it weakens them and they will end up cracking , our grooved discs are £85 a pair and P&P is £12.50 , we use good quality German made discs which won't be as cheap as the E bay Chinese ones
