On my 03 sti I was needing new rear discs and pads, so got the calipers off changed the pads wich was pretty simple, but I couldnt get the discs to move at all, tried tapping them with a rubber mallet with the handbrake on and off, but it would not budge so left the standard discs on, can anybody tell me how to get the discs off so I can have another go? thanks

You need to slacken off the handbrake mechanism to remove the rear disks.
There is a little rubber bung that you remove on the inside of the drum to gain access. You then need to move the little cog to slacken the handbrake (can't remember which way slackens it?) I found a bent screwdriver was the best tool for the job!

if it doesn't move at all , its probably just rusted in place , if you have a small amount of movement then its holding on the handbrake shoes , where its rusted in place , you need to give it a whack with a copper mallet , to break the seal , it will come off easy then , before fitting the new ones clean the hub face with wire brush , wd40 and emery cloth to get them perfectly clean , put a bit of copper slip on the drive flange before fitting the new disc.
If it stuck on the handbrake shoes , yo need to slacken them off , around the back of the backplate is a rubber grommet , remove this and use a screw driver to slacken off the handbrake shoes and they should then just pull off
Cheers Ian
