Default Extreme Tramlining

Today I was out for a spirited drive in my car.

Now, I am using RE070's at the moment and they have about 2mm tread left. I know these tyres are renowned for tramlining.

But today I experienced a whole new level of tramlining!

I was cruising at around 80mph, then all of a sudden I found myself on the other side of the private road with absolutely no input from me! A very quick and abrupt toss to the other side of the road!

Now I find this unacceptable as it has got to the point where it is dangerous.

So the question is what is the best tyre for me to put on my Spec C?

I do love the grip the RE070's give but I cannot be dealing with the tramlining like that, unless of course the tramlining is much reduced with a new set of RE070's.

I ahve read a few threads and its seems very undesiisve as to what tyres are best for these cars.

I like PS2, and I like Toyo, are there other brands I should know about?

Your thoughts please.

When the RE070's are near the end of their life they tramline even worse.

PS3's are good.

Maybe check geometry.?

How do you find the EXE-TC top mounts for NVH?

Thanks for that. I will take a look at the PS3's

The top mounts are noisy, not so bad with vibration and I wouldn't say they are very harsh, I think they are about right for fast road use.

But if where to change anything about them then it would be the noise, especially as the car has no sound proofing!

I think I will get the car corner weighted as I am off to the ring in a couple of weeks!

T1R/S are too soft in the sidewall, IMHO.

I chewed mine up in quite a short time.

I really rate R888's for grip, but they are a soft compound.

IMHO.

I think I'll stick with the oem top mounts then.

As above, I'd stay away from T1R's.

Might see you at the 'Ring

I have used Bridgestone's on my last scoob (03 sti ppp) and had the same problem the tramlining was terrible, changed for Toyo T1R they had no tramlining but felt a bit soft, which didnt give me the confidence to push the car in the corners due to the side walls being too soft, I now own a modified 2005 spec c which has had a powerstation fast road geometry set up done(i would advise you to get your car done its well worth every penny) and Vredestein ultrac sessantas tyres fitted, and the car handles like a dream with good feedback through the steering no tramlining and the grip from the Vredestein's is fantastic, they have really impressed me and i will be getting another set when this set come to the end of their life, Anger had the Vredestein's on his car when he went to round the ring and thought they were great tyres.

Thanks for the help and advice chaps.

I am kind of torn between the Vreds, PS3 and Conti's.

I had Conti Sports on my M3 and loved them.

I have heard very good things from Vred users, not just Subaru owners either.

The PS3 I have not experienced.

@ dantastic; what are the Vreds like in the wet? As we are fast approaching winter I ideally need a tyre with good wet grip as well as outstanding dry grip.

@ -Nic-; might well see you there mate, I will keep an eye out.

All the above advice is sound.
My advice is that when you have 2mm of tread left on a set of 070s - make sure you have two hands on the wheel at all times.
