Hi
Just swapped my classic scooby for an my03 plate one and i have come across a problem with the pads............i cant get the new ones into the brembo caliper and to be honest the old ones were a swine to get out.
I bought the pads today from a local motor factor but there were shamfered on both top and bottom of the pad. the guy said there were the correct pad for an sti but the old ones even though worn dont look to be sloping on the top and bottom.
Does anyone know what pads i would need for an sti 2003 and why are they nearly impossible to get out of the caliper.....and again i cant get the old ones back in becasue they are so tight or have i done something wrong.
Sorry for all the questions but im stuck.
cheers

Cheers for the reply, i did copper slip the back plate but its af if the length of the pad is a mm or so out as it wont go back in the caliper without the hammer!!!!! then i couldnt get it out again.
Do you know if the pads should be shamfered on the top and bottom or nor??
cheers

yep pistons pushed in all the way. I have just had another go (still not sure the new pads are the right ones) but i cant get the olds ones back in either. its just way to tight between the top and the bottom of the pad. Never before have i had trouble doing brakes like this.
plus when i got the old pad about 1cm into the caliper the disc was solid and wouldnt move............... doing my head in now.
i really need help on what the pad should look like as well, should they be the same thickness top to bottom or shamfered like the new ones?
cheers

Probably a mixture of corrosion build up on the pad retaining surface and the black coating on the pad being a bit too thick which will create binding when trying to fit the pad.
You will need to get a file and clean the pad seating surface right down and then run it across the pad top edge to take down the black coatind which will then allow the pad to fit nicely fella![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
I run a body and mechanical workshop and have seen this problem many times,be sure to give the caliper a good filing.
You will probably be surprised at what corrosion has built up once you give it some obey joyful, same with the pad coating, always a over lap issue with most.

Thanks for the reply, i will try this after work tomorrow, just had another look and it does look a bit rusty..
I know i keep repeating myself but what should the pads look like ? I dont know how to explain the new pads i have but if you layed them flat on the ground the braking surface goes from 2mm thick at one end upto normal pad width then back down to 2mm at the other end ????????
i cant see how these new pads can be right as i will lose at least an inch either end of braking surface.
cheers for the replies

A lot of pad manufacturers make their pads with chamfers on them , as it reduces the chances of them squealing
These are the shape pads you need
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/~god...?id_product=40
As mentioned , it probably either the pads have too much paint on them , so scrape the ends of them , or it could be corrosion under the metal pad plates bolted into the calipers to stop the pads damaging the alloy caliper bodies
Cheers Ian
