Default Tyres keep going down?

Off side. First it's the rear, then it's the front. Had both off, checked, no sign of anything in them.

Pump them up, after a journey one orr the other is down again, but never both.

Sometimes they go down overnight, sometimes not.

WTF is going on?

WRX 04 wheels, 215/40 17" Toyo Proxes T1S in good condition.

Just had the same thing over the last week or so with both my nearside tyres.
Was pumping up daily.
so this morning have removed them both (wheels) pumped them up to pressure, and threw them both in the bath (mrs wasnt happy, but needs must)

Found 1 leaking from the base of the valve, only when i touched the valve did i find that one.

And the other was leaking round the edge of the seal where it meets the rim edge, so just off to tyre dealer now for a valve, and remove the other one and see whats going on with that.

I`m having same kind of problem.. I`ve checked the tyres in the bath for bubbles and leaks. None.... I`ve changed the valves..

I`m thinking once back on the car and under pressure of the cars weight, I`m must have a tiny leak coming from the wheel rim itself....

I lose about 10psi every 2/3 days.. So, I just bought a 12v Pump and check them every other day.. Can`t just buy and change the wheels at the moment... But I will be doing when funds allow..

Could be porous alloy?

Hairline crack, plenty of potholes on our roads?

Those 2 and dirt in the valves are the 3 most likely contenders.

Had identical issue recently.
Turned out to be a leaking valve.

Corrosion on the alloys?

Mine had this, got sick off having to pump them back up and got an egg on one tyre which meant a new tyre. Just had all four re-furbed and touch wood all pressures all holding now.

HTH.

Conversely I had a serious crack in a rim on MY02 WRX. Tyre pressures held and not visible until the tyre was removed, but the dealer (quite rightly) wouldn't fit a new tyre until I'd had it welded up.

Agreed, most likely leaking round the rim or valve due to corrosion... any tyre place should be able to re-seal them.

Had the same thing 3 days ago, Jeff. My front passenger tyre had gone down within a week of it being put on with my refurbed Speedlines. Took it to my mate Gilly @ Mag tyres and it was simply the inner rim being slightly porous. He used this dark grey gloopy stuff to reseal and gave the inner rim a blast with a wire brush. Just a little overspray from the refurb that was coming off. Been fine since mate.

Probably what you have TBH. And Gilly is cheap, only wanted a fiver for taking the wheel off, testing, refitting tyre, balancing and back onto les Subaru. Tell him I sent you

Slow down on the technical talk there, Andy.

Had the same problem on one of mine, same cause with the rim, same solution too. Although I'm not convinced it was the same dark grey gloopy stuff... it was light grey for a start.

Well, the bad news is that the lad took it to his mate's, a place that wouldf repair a tyre that a tyre place would condemn, (and try and sell you a new one), and it's fooked, through to material on the inside in four places, been run too low pressure....

So, one new tyre to buy. At least. Plus maybe the wheel to get checked out/refurbed etc.

That's over £300 the two cars have had on them in two months now.

Better start looking round.

I bet the rim is badly corroded. When he does your tyre ask him to clean the rim & do a bead seal, once the tyre is off this only takes 5 mins.

Bit grim

See if my mate can help you and go from there I guess. I usually run my 17s on 34/32 f/r.

If it makes you feel any better mine has had that spent on this week. And well over that last month. And as I bought it the month before, considerably more than that, that month too technically. There was nothing faulty on mine either!

Well, sourced two Toyo Proxes T1R's in a 215/40 17" 87W for £186 all in at a local place, in stock.

It was only a couple of ££ over what I could have got them from Camskill, once I figured in delivery, fitting, Getting rid of my old tyres etc.

So......could have been worse, but I wish it hadn't happened at all.

Have a similar issue with one of my alloys. Got it resealed and didn't see an issue until I changed the tyres.
