Default Brembos p1ss me off / wanted!

Why are Brembos so ******* fragile? I`m now after a pair of rears for a 2003 STI Blob.

I had a bleed nipple snap last year, so it was `retapped`.......for some reason that same one is now p1ssing brake fluid out and the thread`s gone. There`s no point trying another repair cos it was only just repairable last time. I`ve also got a snapped one on the other side from when I had my braided hoses fitted so I might as well replace the poxy things.

Edit. I can have a pair off another car (NKS Wrexham come to the rescue again) and then if nothing can be done with mine, I`ll have to replace!

You tried PTFE on the threads?

Or a helicoil?

This shouldnt write off a caliper!

I can helicoil threads , basically you drill and tap them the next size up , then insert a stainless steel coil , that reduces the new thread down to the original size.

We charge £30 a thread for this service , and its then better than new as its a much harder material than the alloy in the calipers

As Ian has mentioned, a good helicoil ends up being alot stronger than the origional thread as its essentially putting a permenant steel thread into a weaker aluminium casting, therefore the servicable thread is steel on steel rather than steel on ali.

I just got all excited about this then, until I rang the garage...that`s what I had done last time apparently (at a cost of £60)

But it`s not steel on steel is it The thread will be steel but the poxy nipple is aluminium isn`t it?? Or am I wrong?

Nowt to lose by sending it to Ian (godspeed) first .... probably wont cost owt more than postage to get him to have a looksy!

Who installed the last helicoil then? Did the drill too deep and kill the taper? Thats the only way i can see of getting it wrong!

I don`t know who did it mate. The garage sent it somewhere local. It`s just really odd to suddenly start leaking (today). I have my suspicion that when the MOT garage tried to nip it up that he may have over cooked it, not knowing about the easibilty (is that a word ) to strip a thread!

Like you say, might still be worth a try with Ian.
