Iv put my standard sti springs on the rear today and they still catch very slightly, would a 205/45/17 sort this didt really want drop down to a 40 there seem enough room between wheel arch and tyre init seem like the width, but as someone mentioned the weels off a 2003 Subaru have a different offset to a classic gutted as iv spent all week refurbish them nothing is straight forward for me ha

Well iv just put 205 45 17 tyres on the wheels and it's still catching very slight if I go over a dip in the road, I didt think there would be much difference between classic alloys and some off a 2003, of anyone has any ideas what I can do or what's wrong that would be fantastic

I have a set of sewage STI wheels on my classic fitted with 225/45 17's. The car is on Eibach springs with a 22mm rear ARB and rear camber bolts.
The rear camber is at max and there is very little clearance between the spring perch and tyre corner but I don't get any contact on the arch lip.
This is an RA that never carries rear passengers (or a spare wheel, rear seats, boot lining etc...) so sits near normal ride height despite the springs.
Is it catching the arch lip or up inside the arch where the inner skin rolls over?

The bigger the ET number, the closer the wheel sits to the hub, so an ET48 wheel will be nearer the arch than the ET53

Hence why my new age BBS wheels and standard STI wheels are ET53
Think you confused yourself here, the official offset variation on subaru's upto the hatch has always been ET48-53, its when you go outside these parameters you start having problems
OP, to start with as stated, tyre size is your issue here, 45 is too much really, also check to ensure your ET is between 48-53, if its less than 48 then thats another problem.

That sticker is incorrect, as 2003 STi alloys are 5x100.
I have them on my classic, with 215/40's from a newage WRX. I only get rubbage with passengers in the back, when cornering.
When I'm next due tyre's, I'm going 205/45's

Oh yeah, thats true, but these were aftermarket wheels supposedly designed for subaru fitment, both for a 99 model classic
What i`m getting at is, even tho the ET can be 48-53, if the wheel style dictates, they wont clear the 4 pots, even aftermarket wheels, which is a pain !

Had the wheel off today and have got some numbers off the back they are as follows..
17x7JET 40
4X100 530KG
4X114.3 630KG
VIA 690KG
Hope this sheds some light onto why the rears rub slightly when cornering hard..

Yes, the ET is 40 which is wrong, but as i said above, some wheels are o.k at this ET, it appears your ones are not.
I`m not sure what ET would suit, being lowered etc, but as an example, my classic is running 215/45/17 tyres on a speedline wheel with an ET of 48 and that Just clears the 4 pots by a wafer thin amount and i dont get any rubbing on the rear arch UNLESS the car is fully loaded with 4 people and a boot full of stuff then i`ll get a rub if i go over a speedbump etc

I also have new age wheels on my 99 classic. 215/45/17. Only get rubbing with fully loaded car on round abouts. Car is lowered slightly on eibach shocks and springs.
