Default Offset and changing pcd

My freind is selling some 18" alloys really want them because of the price i can get them, tried them earlier and they dont fit the bolt pcd is 5x114 i brlive a 2004 wrx is 5x100 is that correct?
Anyway ive seen a hub pcd adapter for £130 they vary from 20 to 50 mm thick, i need to work out the standard offset and the new alloy offset + the thickness of adapter. I really want to go flush as possible without having to do arch work. Whats a good offset further out as possible with no extra work.
Thanks brett-wv14

You don't even give us a clue to the size of wheel.

P.S. Std STI alloy is 7.5J wide with a 53mm offset.

I dont know myself yet mate gona have a good look at them tommorow and find out.
Im new to the alloys and offest side of things dont have a clue what half the numbers mean. Im guessing if i find out what offset is good in my eyes as in flush with the car with no work. I will them have to work out what offset the wheels are and maybe have to get the thinest pcd adapter or + 10/20/30/40/50mm to get flush...Im confused :s hahah

Think i need to do a little more research
